About CCJ
The Center for Creative Justice [CCJ] is a community-based, non-profit, social service agency. CCJ was formed in 1974 when concerned citizens recognized the need for community involvement in the criminal justice system. Embracing the principles of Restorative Justice, probation supervision services provided by professional staff and trained community volunteers were initiated to meet that need.
Probation through CCJ offers rehabilitation which allows the offender to remain in the community and continue as a contributing member of society through work, school, family and church. Clients make restitution to victims, engage in community service and complete programs deemed important to their successful rehabilitation.
The CCJ Corrections Program offers Story County Courts a sentencing alternative. Through probation supervision, convicted adult offenders are integrated back into the community. Individuals who are on probation meet regularly with a person who supports them in fulfilling the conditions of their probation. Programming emphasized during supervision may include:
- Anger Management
- Batterer's Education
- Community Service Completion
- Drinking Driver's Courses
- Mental Health Evaluation and Treatment
- Parenting Classes
- Restitution Planning and Payment
- Substance Abuse Evaluation and Treatment
Without the services provided by CCJ, offenders would simply receive a fine and/or jail sentence with little or no rehabilitative effort and absolutely no supervision.
